‘Well-known SAPS official’ arrested for corruption during dawn raid

A top SAPS official has been busted in the early hours of Monday morning. She is expected to appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court for charges of corruption, fraud, theft, and money laundering later on today, in connection with a fraudulent police equipment tender.

Who is the high-ranking SAPS official that has been arrested?

It’s understood that the suspect, who was apprehended at the break of dawn, had served as a Deputy National Police Commissioner. The numbers behind the alleged crimes are simply staggering:

  • The contract price was R191 million.
  • However, R65 million was paid to the service provider, Instrumentation for Traffic Law enforcement.
  • R22 million was stopped at the advanced stage of the Investigating Directorates probe into the matter.
  • She is the ninth police officer – and 13th suspect in total – to be arrested in connection with a 2017 multimillion-rand police warning equipment tender.

Police equipment scandal claims another scalp

SAPS confirmed a pre-dawn raid had taken place in a statement issued a short while ago. They stated that the Deputy National Police Commission is facing a total of four criminal charges, and she will soon join an infamous list of suspects:

“A high-ranking police officer has been arrested during a pre-dawn raid at her house this morning. She is the 13th accused who is expected to appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Monday, facing charges of corruption, fraud, theft, and money laundering.”

“The latest arrests joins eleven other people, including former National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane, former Gauteng Police Commissioner Deliwe de Lange, Gauteng deputy police Commissioner Major -General Brigadier Nombhuruza Lettie Napo, Brigadier James Ramanjalum, and Major General Ravichandran Pillay.”
