Video footage of a mother fighting fiercely to keep her five-year-old boy out of the clutches of a suspected kidnapper has gone viral.

In the video of the incident that took place on Thursday in Queens, a neighborhood in New York, it can be seen how Delores Diaz storms onto the car after a man grabs her five-year-old son Jacob and stuffs him in a car.

The man had earlier jumped out of the vehicle parked on the side of the road, before he ran across the sidewalk and grabbed the boy. The boy was walking just a few steps in front of his mother. The family was on their way to Diaz’s husband’s place of employment.

Diaz said she could grab her son through the window before the two men drove off southbound on Hillside Avenue and then westbound on Jamaica Avenue.

“I don’t know why that happened. I didn’t see those people, ever,” Diaz Lopez said.

She explained in Spanish that a mother’s instinct is what made her fight and act differently.

“You have to do what’s necessary, no matter what,” said said. “The car was just parked there. I would never have imagined that a man would get out of the car and grab my son. You always have to be aware of your surroundings and not be on your phone.”

Jacob was playing video games on his phone by Friday afternoon, but Lopez says all three of her children are traumatized and refuse to leave the house.

Meanwhile, one of the suspects has been arrested.

Police officers were at Brookdale Hospital for an unrelated matter when they recognized the man from the video.

They say the man was at the hospital seeking some treatment and was taken into custody. It is not clear what treatment.

Once in custody, the man assaulted a police officer while the officer attempted to take his fingerprints. The officer suffered bleeding in the face.

Police are still searching for a second suspect, who is believed to be the father of the arrested man.
