The Gauteng Health Department has announced it’s opening up some of its vaccination sites on Sunday, 18 July 2021. It comes as the riots, which rocked parts of the province and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), have negatively impacted the roll-outs in both provinces. In KZN alone, vaccines that were meant for the province were instead redirected to other provinces.

“Various sites will be operational allowing those who are eligible to get vaccinated are urged to make use of this opportunity to protect themselves and their loved ones,” the department’s Motalatale Modiba said.

Here’s where you can get vaccinated in Gauteng

09:00 – 14:00

• Phola Park Community Healthcare Centre – Corner Letutula and Mzimkhulu Street, Thokoza, Ekurhuleni

• Daveyton Main Community Healthcare Centre – Bhengu Street, Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.

• Kobie Muller Hall – 1st Angus Road, Germiston, Ekurhuleni.

08:00 – 13:00

• Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital Recreational Centre

The health department has urged people to take advantage of the opportunity and get vaccinated. Not everyone, however, is eligible for the vaccine – for now, only people aged from 35 can get their jabs, including the elderly.

“It is important that we get as many eligible people as possible to go and get vaccinated. Government has taken steps to ensure that we simplify the registration process, and even the process to get vaccinated, and therefore we are making a call that if you are eligible to get vaccinated visit our vaccination sites this weekend,” Modiba said.

“Government is employing various options such as opening over the weekends, pop up sites and mass vaccination sites as part of a drive to make vaccination more accessible. Vaccines are important because they help protect against severe illnesses and hospitalisation.”

The department has further reiterated its call for residents to continue exercising the necessary measures, including social distancing and using hand sanitiser.
