McCarthy joined Amazulu after the season had already kicked off, with him playing replacing club legend Ayanda Dlamini in the clubs head coach role. The Durban-based side were languish in the bottom half of the table when he took over, and has now seemingly transformed the club from a team that is synonymous with fighting relegation, to one challenging at the top.

McCarthy transformed Amazulu’s fortunes

Amazulu’s second place finish effectively means that he club will qualify for the Caf Champions League tournament for next season, provided Kaizer Chiefs, who are still to contest the semifinals of the tournament, do not upset the odds, by going on to claim an unlikely historic first tournament victory in the club’s existence. That would no doubt be heartbreaking for self-confessed Chiefs fan McCarthy.

Rasta has since honoured him in ‘style’

However, regardless of whether McCarthy’s efforts will prove to be enough to earn Amazulu their rightful status and participation in the champions league next season, one thing is for sure, his exploits this season have not gone unnoticed. Infamous South African artist Rasta, known for releasing controversial drawings of either deceased public figures, or those who have achieved something significant, has honoured McCarthy with his very own piece of artwork.

However, there is a catch! Those who are most familiar with Rasta’s work will tell you to always lessen your expectations, at least when it comes to receiving a true reflection of yourself. And in true Rasta fashion, he has not disappointed! He was pictured presenting the artwork to McCarthy who seemed like a very happy recipient of it too. Or at least you could say he has seen the lighter side of things.
