KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC, Nonhlanhla Khoza has called for the arrest of a Durban DJ who allegedly abused his girlfriend.

This comes after the woman took to social media, posting pictures of her bruised face and body after she allegedly suffered abuse at the hands of her DJ boyfriend.

The pictures have sent shockwaves on social networks, triggering calls for the perpetrator to be brought to justice.

MEC Khoza commended the young lady for coming out about the alleged abuse at the hands of the Durban DJ.

“We have to stand up against the abuse of women. The abuse starts with one slap and often leads to death.  We are grateful that this lady came out detailing that she has been a victim of assault and financial abuse over some time now,” she said.

She said women should never take an apology after being beaten.

“We can’t have that person roaming the streets after such a horrendous crime. He has  inflicted pain to this young lady  woman. He must be found and be arrested,” she added.

She urged men across to tap into their consciences and treat all women with the same level of respect they give to their mothers and sisters.

“Persons who abuse women in the name of love should be isolated and exposed. No man should be a friend with an abuser and women should also stop feeling ashamed for coming forward about their experiences so that they can get help.  In the Department of Social Development, we have professionals who are trained to deal with such issues,” added MEC Khoza.

Khoza has assembled a team of social workers to trace the victim and to ensure that they administer psychosocial support and assist her with opening a case at the police station.

“We are not going to fold our arms, but we will deal with abusers in all corners of our province. Gender-based violence is a societal problem that needs all of us.”
