The High Court in Limpopo has heard gruesome details surrounding the death of student Precious Ramabulana. Sentencing proceedings against the accused, Aubrey Manaka are expected to continue on Friday, 11 June, after being postponed the day before.
Manaka has pleaded guilty to all charges against him including rape, murder, robbery and house breaking. Ramabulana, a 21-year-old student at Capricorn TVET College was stabbed multiple times while she was sleeping at her off-campus residence in November 2019.
Aubrey Manaka stabbed Precious Ramabulana 90 times
It was initially reported that Precious Ramabulana was stabbed 52 times, however on Thursday, the state revealed that postmortem results showed that she was actually stabbed 90 times by Aubrey Manaka.
Manaka admitted to the court, that he stabbed Ramabulana before and after raping her. He said he stabbed her to death because he feared she would be able to identify him to police.
“I can’t remember how many times I stabbed her but it was several. I stabbed her to overpower her, and I then raped her,” he said.
“I forcefully had sex with her after the stabbing. She was not bleeding profusely. After forcefully having sex with her, I stabbed her again. I was scared that she would survive and be able to identify me”
In his confession statement, Manaka claims he had not planned on killing Ramabulana as he had feelings for her. Manaka claims on the fateful night, he had actually intended on romantically proposing to her, but ended up breaking into her room and killing her.
He has pleaded with the court for leniency and also asked for forgiveness.
“Im sorry to the family for what I have done and want to take full responsibility for my actions,” he said.
