The sudden death of Nigerian televangelist T.B Joshua has been met with shock, including by those who are outside the Christian faith. Joshua, whose name was Temitope Balogun, passed away from a short illness on Saturday evening, 5 June 2021.
In addition to his claims of being able to heal cancer, HIV and blindness, T.B Joshua was also known for his so-called prophecies on notable events, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
COVID-19: It’s no secret when the coronavirus reared its ugly head, even the medical fraternity found itself at some point, not sure how to react effectively to it. While there was much uncertainty the respiratory disease, Joshua claimed he would be able to “flush out” COVID-19 and “predicted” that it would disappear on 27 March 2020.
Zimbabwe coup: There was a video of him also “prophesying” about the possible capturing or killing of a president in Southern African nation. The clip was recorded in 2014 and for many, it was seen as a prediction of the 2017 military coup in Zimbabwe, during which Robert Mugabe was ousted and subsequently replaced by his vice president, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Hillary Clinton winning US election: Joshua also incorrectly predicted that Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 US election. We all know how that turned out… she lost to her Republican rival Donald Trump. Reacting to this, Joshua said he had been referring to the popular vote (which Clinton won) and that any misinterpretation was due to a lack of “spiritual understanding.”
MH370: On 8 March 2014, a Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 left Kuala Lumpur International Airport to its planned destination, Beijing Capital International Airport – however it never made it and has since become one of the biggest mysteries in the world. Joshua is alleged to have claimed that he predicted the tragedy.
Michael Jackson: Joshua is also alleged to have “predicted” the death of pop singer Michael Jackson, back in June 2009.
