As if the slow recovery from the recent riots and looting is not enough eThekwini Municipality has advised residents that there will be water disruptions across parts of the city, due to two burst water pipes, until midnight on Tuesday.

“The public is informed of interruption to the water supply in southern and western areas of Durban due to two major burst pipes on separate trunk mains supplying the Chatsworth 2 reservoir. As a result of the burst pipes, the reservoir emptied last night, affecting the supply of water to all areas supplied by this reservoir,” eThekwini Municipality said in a statement.

Repairs on both trunk mains commenced on the morning of Tuesday 20 July.

“The estimated completion time for both repairs is midnight tonight,” eThekwini Municipality said.

Water supply to the following areas are affected until the repairs are complete:

• Parts of Westcliffe

• Parts of Chatsworth

• Parts of Woodhurst

• Nagina

• Luganda

• Intake road

• Parts of Marianridge

• St Wendolins

• Washington Heights

• Parts of Shallcross

• Klaarwater

• Demat

“The Municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused,” the city said.

For more information and enquiries regarding water supply, residents can contact the Call Centre on 080 131 3013, the toll-free number 080 311 1111 or the eThekwini Water and Sanitation WhatsApp number on 073 1483 477.

Meanwhile, Durban residents are still reeling from a week of riots and looting across the city last week. The unrest erupted after supporters of former president Jacob Zuma threatened to shutdown the economy when he was jailed after being found guilty of a charge of contempt of court in the Constitutional Court three weeks ago. He faced the charge after he refused to appear before the Zondo Commission into State Capture. Zuma is currently serving a 15 month sentence in the Estcourt Prison. His corruption trial in relation to the country’s controversial arms deal with French firm Thales was postponed in the Pietermartizburg High Court on Tuesday.
