Three people, including two children, died in a car accident between two light motor vehicles on the R82 outside Viljoensdrift on Sunday.
ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene around 21:24 to reportedly find provincial services on the scene.
According to ER24, paramedics found the woman and three-year-old child trapped inside their vehicle while a boy, believed to be seven-years-old, lying outside the car.
Unfortunately, all three patients had already succumbed to their numerous injuries and were declared deceased at the scene. A passenger from the second vehicle was treated for his injuries by the provincial services. After treatment, the patient was transported to a nearby hospital. The details surrounding this accident are still unknown.
FIVE PEOPLE DIE IN TRUCK AND MINIBUS TAXI ACCIDENT
In a separate incident on Saturday, 10 April, five people died and 11 others were injured in an accident between a truck and minibus taxi.
This accident occurred near Xhorha in the Eastern Cape. Four people died at the scene while the fifth person died on arrival at the hospital.
Provincial transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose said in a statement that the accident occurred due to alleged reckless and negligent driving when the minibus taxi with 16 occupants from Mqanduli collided with a truck.
MINIBUS TAXI INCIDENT ALLEGEDLY RECKLESS DRIVING
The injured people were taken to Madwaleni and Nelson Mandela Academic Hospitals for medical assistance.
Binqose said the accident occurred due to alleged reckless and negligent driving.
“Sadly all those who were injured and all those who died were from the taxi, those in the truck escaped unharmed. It is a sad accident, one that we wish not to see on our roads again.”
MEC for Roads and Transport Weziwe Tikana Gxothiwe extended her condolences to those who lost a loved one.
